Who we are
The Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA) was founded in 2023 and is affiliated with Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary (SGT) University in Gurugram, India. Headquartered in New Delhi, ASIA operates as an independent interdisciplinary research centre with a single purpose: to produce rigorous, policy-relevant scholarship on Asia — a continent home to the majority of humanity and the theatre of the world’s most consequential geopolitical and developmental contests.
ASIA brings together historians, political scientists, economists, legal scholars, security analysts, and public health researchers. The institute is committed to building an evidence base that informs policymakers, educators, journalists, and civil society — and to being an Asia-from-Asia analytical voice rather than a passive object of study by institutions based elsewhere.
Mission
ASIA produces original research on South and Southeast Asia that shapes policy, informs public debate, and builds India’s analytical capacity in a contested world. The institute deepens and democratises understanding of the region by bridging academic research with public discourse, fostering collaboration and critical inquiry across disciplines and borders, and addressing pressing questions in international relations, security, health, history, culture, law, and technology.
The 2030 ambition
“By 2030, no serious analysis of Indian foreign policy, South Asian health equity, or Asian intellectual property governance should be considered complete without engaging ASIA’s work.”
