The Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA) is the research and policy arm of Sanrachna Foundation, a not-for-profit Section 8 company, bringing together rigorous research, interdisciplinary inquiry and policy engagement to address complex questions shaping India, South Asia and the wider Asian region. Guided by its distinctive 3I Framework – Inquire, Interpret and Illuminate
ASIA begins with genuine questions, situates regional developments within wider political, economic and social contexts, and translates research into actionable insights for policymakers, institutions, industry and civil society. Through six specialised research centres spanning health equity, competition and economic resilience, law and emerging technologies, digital history, constitutional democracy, and security and strategy, ASIA produces evidence-based research, builds knowledge partnerships, convenes national and international dialogues, and contributes to public policy debates. Despite being established only in 2023, the Institute has secured visibility in leading national and international media, convened multidisciplinary forums, and received formal recognition as a partner in the WHO/UNEP-led Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint.
Chaired by Shri Najeeb Jung, with Dr Indu Bhushan as Vice Chairperson and an experienced Governing Board, ASIA combines intellectual independence with institutional credibility. Its association with Sanrachna Foundation provides a not-for-profit institutional framework to pursue research, develop collaborative programmes, undertake commissioned projects, mobilise grants and philanthropic support, and build sustained partnerships with public institutions, universities, foundations, industry and international organisations. This structure enables ASIA to align its research and policy work with public-interest objectives while maintaining the governance, financial accountability and organisational continuity essential for long-term impact. Through these partnerships, ASIA seeks to bridge the gap between research and action, producing knowledge that informs decisions, strengthens institutions and contributes to a more informed and resilient Asia.
