The History Lab at the Advanced Study Institute of Asia aims to become a key centre for intellectual exploration. Despite being in its early stages, the lab is already setting high standards for research innovation, combining traditional and contemporary methods in a diverse, interactive environment. It supports a wide range of research themes and outputs—from politics and culture to law and science, and from conventional books to dynamic websites and immersive maps. The lab fosters creativity and collaboration, providing an inclusive platform for scholars, researchers, and enthusiasts to engage in ambitious projects and long-term research.
The History Lab has already completed several notable projects, including “Woh Dilli,” which explores the bygone era of Shahjahanabad, and comprehensive studies on the history of Buddhism and Jainism. The team has also developed the Vigyan Vaibhava site and is currently engaged in the Monsoon Project, examining the history of trade and economic connections through cultural exchange and heritage. Additionally, in collaboration with the Centre for Law and Critical Emerging Technologies, the lab has created the GI Atlas, tracing the cultural and regional history of various GI-tagged products, and is now working on an extensive digital version of the atlas. Looking ahead, the lab plans to continue enhancing the field by contributing to the history of diverse themes, ensuring a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to historical research. Through these efforts, the History Lab strives to remain at the forefront of historical inquiry, promoting a deeper understanding of the past and its relevance to the present and future.
