Understanding the economic burden of lead exposure

On December 3rd, ASIA successfully hosted a virtual roundtable discussion on understanding the economic burden of lead exposure, featuring esteemed guests including Dr. Indu Bhushan (Chair), Dr. Ludovica Gazze, Prof. Amogh Dev Rai, and Mr. Sandeep Dahiya. The session delved into the multifaceted impact of lead exposure, highlighting its contribution to productivity loss, GDP decline, and other critical risk factors. A key focus was comparing the economic costs of lead exposure in low- and middle-income countries versus high-income countries, particularly regarding productivity loss. Discussions also explored pressing questions such as balancing economic development with health in mitigating lead exposure (as posed by Prof. Rai) and strengthening advocacy efforts to prioritize lead exposure in public health policies, especially in vulnerable regions (raised by Mr. Dahiya).
