The Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA), an interdisciplinary research center in New Delhi, India, focuses on expanding our understanding of Asia, particularly South and Southeast Asia. Established in 2023, ASIA uses top academics and professionals to explore various subjects such as health, law, international relations, and societal concerns. The institution encourages a multidisciplinary perspective and provides a thorough research environment. ASIA has initiated political, historical, and health-related initiatives, sharing their work through various media platforms. The strategic strategy includes short- and long-term research goals, fostering networking among different theme areas. ASIA’s collaborative environment aims to help researchers reach their full potential. The center plans to broaden its research scope to include primary studies and secondary analysis. The board comprises Shri Najeeb Jung, Former Indian Bureaucrat, Chairman of ASIA, Ms. Sandhya Vasudevan, Former MD Deutsche Bank, Member of the Board, ASIA, Mr. Rajat M. Nag, Former Managing Director-General of the Asian Development Bank, Member of the Board, ASIA and Mr. Amogh Rai, Research Director ASIA.

The Role:

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Economic Researcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in economics, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex economic concepts to a variety of audiences. As an Economic Researcher, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth research on economic trends, policies, and issues that impact our organization and the broader economy. You will analyze data, develop economic models, and produce reports that provide insights and recommendations to support decision-making processes. Your work will involve collaborating with other researchers, economists, and stakeholders to ensure that our research is comprehensive, accurate, and relevant. You will also be expected to stay up to date with the latest economic developments and contribute to the dissemination of our research findings through publications, presentations, and other channels. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Responsibilities:

1. Interdisciplinary Research and Economic Analysis

  • Conduct in-depth economic analyses across various sectors, including innovation, healthcare, cultural dynamics, and behavioral science, applying both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Examine the economic implications of regulatory frameworks, legal policies, and geopolitical shifts on trade, investment, and industry growth in Asia and South Asia.
  • Analyze data and build economic models to forecast trends and assess policy impacts on issues such as public health, cultural economies, and emerging technologies.

2. Policy Development and Advisory

  • Develop actionable policy recommendations based on evidence-based analysis, tailored to address socio-economic challenges in Asian and South Asian countries.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, research reports, and white papers that address specific issues like international trade agreements, innovation policy, cultural economies, and health systems.
  • Engage in scenario-building and strategic forecasting for stakeholders in government, NGOs, and private sectors across the region, offering insights on trade, investment, and economic resilience.

3. Geopolitical and International Trade Analysis

  • Conduct research on the economic impact of geopolitical trends, trade agreements, and investment flows within Asia, South Asia, and other global regions.
  • Evaluate the economic and social effects of trade barriers, tariffs, and regulatory changes on specific industries, providing insights that support decision-making for policymakers and industry leaders.
  • Track global and regional economic trends, producing comparative analyses that highlight unique challenges and opportunities for countries within the region.

4. Collaboration and Interdisciplinary Engagement

  • Collaborate with other researchers, economists, and industry experts to design and conduct interdisciplinary studies, integrating insights from fields like behavioral science, cultural studies, and legal studies.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to think-tank forums, seminars, and conferences to discuss and disseminate research findings.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to support public outreach, stakeholder engagement, and policy advocacy efforts.

5. Publications and Thought Leadership

  • Publish high-quality research articles, policy briefs, and opinion pieces in reputable journals, media outlets, and internal channels.
  • Contribute to the organization’s thought leadership initiatives by producing commentary on emerging economic trends, policy changes, and regional economic developments.

6. Data Management and Research Methodology

  • Manage data sets, ensuring accuracy and integrity across projects, and apply advanced quantitative and econometric techniques for high-quality analysis.
  • Employ a variety of research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), adapting approaches to suit the unique demands of each project.
  • Utilize statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python) to analyze data, build models, and provide detailed visualizations that enhance comprehension of findings.

7. Project Management and Support

  • Assist the Head of Research in coordinating and managing research projects, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Provide mentorship to junior researchers, guiding them on economic modeling, data analysis, and interdisciplinary research techniques.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as economics, public policy/administration, computer science, data science, and/or political science
  • Strong understanding of research design, basic econometrics, and evaluation methodologies, as well as public policy-oriented topics and policy and implementation in South Asia – India in particular
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a position that includes significant external network development and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and strong public speaking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate research findings to a non-technical audience
  • • Willingness to visit research project sites and engage in research content and methodology
  • Ability to think creatively, innovate, strategize, set priorities, manage a workplan, and evaluate progress with minimal supervision
  • Ability to independently learn new technical languages and statistical concepts with minimal team support
  • Experience working across multiple projects and managing multiple internal and external relationships
  • Excellent attention to detail, and the ability to bring structure to a fast-paced work environment
