The Progress and Policy Roundtable on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs)

The Progress and Policy Roundtable on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), Jointly hosted by ASIA and Office Of The Controller General Of Patents, Designs And Trade Marks (CGPDTM) on November 29 in Radisson Blu, New Delhi, brought together experts to discuss the growing role of SEPs in emerging technologies like 5G, AI, and IoT. The event highlighted key recommendations from industry experts including centralized SEP registries, adaptive royalty models, and transparent FRAND guidelines to ensure innovation and equitable access. Experts emphasized the need for India to align its SEP policies with global best practices to foster global collaboration and support its thriving tech ecosystem. Another major highlight of the event was the launch of Working paper titled “Standard Essential Patents: Balancing Innovation and Accessibility”.
