The Progress and Policy Roundtable on “Rethinking Standard-Essential Patents Beyond Telecom for Emerging Technologies”

Roundtable on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), the second edition

Building on the discussions from our first roundtable on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), the second edition shifts focus to a broader range of emerging industries where SEPs are playing an increasingly critical role, including electric vehicles (EVs), quantum computing, clean energy technologies (CETs), AI, agritech, 3D printing, and bioengineering. The Progress and Policy Roundtable on “Rethinking Standard-Essential Patents Beyond Telecom for Emerging Technologies”, jointly hosted by the Centre of Law and Critical Emerging Technologies at ASIA and the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, will be held on 16–17 April 2025 in hybrid format. Bringing together global experts, industry leaders, and policymakers, the roundtable will explore the evolving SEP landscape in emerging sectors. Discussions will focus on extending FRAND models, international regulatory strategies, and the role of SSOs and patent pools, with the aim of fostering a fair and innovation-driven SEP ecosystem beyond telecom.
