Research Internship Opportunity

Position: Research Interns- 4 (Preferably with interests in Modern History and Legal/Constitutional History)

Location: Hybrid (work from libraries/home + report to Vasant Kunj office once a week)

About ASIA:
The Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA), based at SGT University, is an interdisciplinary research centre dedicated to deepening the understanding of Asia through critical work on economy, politics, history, and institutions. It brings together scholars, policymakers, and the public to engage with pressing challenges of South and Southeast Asia.

About the Project:
The Digital Constitution Museum is an initiative to mark 75 years of the Indian Constitution. Envisioned as a virtual public history space, it brings together archival materials, legal debates, illustrations, and oral histories to narrate India’s constitutional journey, from its founding ideals to its contemporary significance. The project especially highlights how the Constitution has been reshaped at critical moments, including the Emergency and the 42nd Amendment.

Role Overview:
We are seeking four motivated Research Interns, two from History and two from Law background, preferably or scholars with a background in Legal History, to contribute to the research, documentation, and content development of the museum. The ideal candidates will be passionate about constitutional history, legal debates, and the role of public memory in shaping democratic life.

Key Responsibilities:

Common

  • Research and Document relevant information from primary and secondary sources.
  • Identify relevant visual materials, including photographs, art, and political cartoons.

History Interns

  • Research pivotal moments in India’s constitutional history (for example, Constituent Assembly debates, Emergency, 42nd Amendment).
  • Curate annotated timelines, biographies of key figures, and contextual essays.

Law Interns

  • Conduct legal-historical research on constitutional provisions, amendments, and landmark judgments (for example, judicial review, Article 352, Basic Structure Doctrine).
  • Draft interpretive texts for the legal sections of the museum.

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • History interns: Postgraduates (MA in History, Modern History, recently completed; freshers welcome).
  • Law interns: Undergraduates who have recently completed their LLB degree (fresh graduates encouraged), Master’s Students can also apply.
  • Strong interest in modern history, constitutional studies, legal history, public law, or public memory.
  • Ability to translate complex academic material into accessible content for a general audience.
  • Able to do independent research in libraries and join the team in the office once a week.
