Mid-18th century Shahjahanabad

By Shubham Mishra and Khushi Kesari

Shubham Mishra, presented the work (jointly by Ms Khushi Kesari) on the mid-18th century Shahjahanabad in the #BornDigitalCollectionsArchivesandMememories Conference in London.

This work is based on a detailed 1840s map of Shahjahanabad which is an invaluable resource to understand the form of the city, which changed drastically in the aftermath of the suppression of the Revolt of 1857. So far we have geo-referenced and digitized the map and made it into a webGIS which is available on the website www.wohdilli.com. In the near future we plan to add attributes to it and also narratives from classical Delhi texts such as #SairulManazil (1820), #Aasarussanadeed (1847) and #WaqiateDarulHukoomateDehli (1920). 3D models of built heritage of Shahjahanabad and interviews with inhabitants who have been residents of the city for generations are also planned. https://www.wohdilli.com/
