The Advanced Study Institute of Asia (ASIA) is committed to advancing lead poisoning research and has participated in the International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 2024 #ILPPW as a signatory to the World Health Organization (WHO). The primary goal of this awareness week was to educate the general public, particularly vulnerable populations such as young parents, policymakers, health professionals, and researchers, about the critical issue of lead poisoning in India. Celebrated from October 20th to 26th, 2024, the activities aimed to foster discussions around lead poisoning prevention under the theme “Bright Futures Begin Lead Free.”
Through previous research efforts, ASIA established partnerships with various national and international organizations, including:

1. Campaign Launch: “Are You Lead Free?”
ASIA initiated an engaging campaign on Instagram, designed to raise awareness about lead poisoning through a variety of content formats, including reels, academic and non-academic posts, and influencer messages. This campaign aimed to sensitize the public and generate increased dialogue around lead safety.

3. Outreach Session on Lead Poisoning Awareness at SGT University

4. Webinar: “Bright Futures Begin Lead Free”
Chaired by Dr. Indu Bhushan, this webinar featured distinguished guests such as Mr. Tom Neltner from Unleaded Kids and Mr. Tim Pye from the LEAPP Alliance. Discussions focused on:
– Initiatives for safeguarding vulnerable communities
– Efficacy of various lead detection methods
– Reevaluation of existing lead safety standards

5. Video Release: Roundtable Discussion
A series of YouTube videos and reels was released, featuring a roundtable discussion with experts from ESDO (Bangladesh), Pure Earth (Bangladesh), CEPHED (Nepal), WHO (Nepal), TERI (India), and the Foundation of Quality India. These sessions aimed to illuminate key issues regarding lead poisoning and share best practices.
