ASIA SenseMaker: Mapping Mental Health

ASIA hosted ASIA SenseMaker discussion with Dr. Damian Santomauro and Dr. Alize Ferrari the lead authors of their recent Lancet paper, “Updated trends in the global prevalence and burden of mental disorders, 1990–2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023.”

The session highlighted a growing crisis marked by rising rates of anxiety and depression, alarming treatment gaps, and a disproportionate burden on adolescents aged 15–19 years.

The conversation reinforced a clear message: mental health is no longer a peripheral health issue—it is a development, equity, and public policy imperative that demands better data, stronger systems, and urgent action.
