ASIA Congratulates Shivani Singh and Khushi Kesari, who presented their research at the South Asian Global IP Conference, 2024 held on 23rd December, organised by the Centre for Development of Intellectual Property and Research (CDIPR), in global collaboration with the University of Oxford, Harvard University, National University of Singapore, University of South Australia, Queen Mary University of London, The George Washington University Law School, University of California, Berkeley and Stanford University.
Their paper titled “๐๐ ๐๐ง๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐: ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ”, selected from submissions across 30+ countries under the theme “Sustainability and Global Development: Comparing IP Protections in Developing vs. Developed Nations,” examines Western views on IP practices in South and Southeast Asia using the USTR Special 301 Report. It critiques the report’s bias toward Western interests and its imposition of standards beyond TRIPS. Highlighting socio-economic and cultural factors driving counterfeit markets, the study calls for equitable IP governance that balances global frameworks with regional priorities.
Their paper will be published in the upcoming book “South Asian Perspectives on Global Intellectual Property: Challenges and Innovations”, bearing the ISBN 978-81-984132-4-6.
